The team played 8 intense games (including 3 overtime games) to earn the championship and title of best Petite team in the Province.  After 6 games of the round-robin Mississauga was in a four-way tie for first with a 5-1 record.  The tie breaker had Nepean placed 1st, Mississauga 2nd, Whitby 3rd, and Guelph 4th.   The semi-final match-ups were Nepean vs. Guelph and Mississauga vs. Whitby.  During the round-robin Mississauga had wins against Markham 3-2 in O/T, Elora-Fergus 2-0, Ajax 3-2 after 14 minutes of O/T, Nepean 6-5, Kitchener 6-2 and their only loss was with Guelph 3-2.

In the semi-final game between Mississauga & Whitby… it was a tight physical game where Mississauga jumped out to a 3-1 lead after trailing 1-0 at the half... Whitby then mounted a comeback and tied the game… with the score tied 3-3 and just over a minute remaining in the game Whitby broke through with the go ahead goal… trailing 4-3 Mississauga came right back and tied it up with 30 seconds remaining in the game… only 15 seconds into the overtime Mississauga scored the winner to put them into the Gold Medal game.  In the Gold medal game Mississauga controlled most of the game with some timely scoring, excellent defense and great goaltending.  Mississauga skated to a 5-2 victory over Guelph and took home the Gold Medal.

Although winning Gold, especially playing 8 games in 4 days, takes a total team effort I also wanted to highlight some of the great individual achievements that helped the team with this great accomplishment.  Miranda Miller was second in over-all scoring with 19 points (and tied for first in over-all goals with 13) while Madeleine Burcher was second in team scoring with 13 points including two big overtime winning goals.   Backstopping the team with great goaltending was Dana Bally who had the best overall goals against average including a shutout and 3 overtime wins.

The MRA would especially like to congratulate all the of the Mustangs Michelle, Melanie, Shelby, Sarah, Kyla, Dana, Madeleine, Alexandra, Rachel, Taylor, Tiffany, Miranda, and the Coaching Staff on their great accomplishment.

The Petite Provincial #1 team road to the championship included 3 Gold and 1 Silver in 5 Tournaments and 1st place in CORL with a record of 15-3-2.

WAY TO GO MUSTANGS!
